Prince Joseph of Monaco (Joseph Marie Jerôme Honoré; 10 September 1763 – 28 June 1816) was a Monagasque prince and brother of Honoré IV, Prince of Monaco.

Biography

He was the second son of Honoré III, Prince of Monaco and his Genovese wife Maria Caterina Brignole.[1] He received the name of this maternal grandfather Giuseppe Brignole. From birth he was styled as Prince Joseph of Monaco. He married Françoise Thérèse Félicité de Choiseul, a niece of Étienne François de Choiseul, on 6 April 1782.[1] The happy marriage produced three children only one of which went on to have further progeny. During the French Revolution, Grimaldi lost his wife who was executed in July 1794.[1] After the death of his wife he remarried to Frances Rainford. The couple had no issue.

  1. Marie Camille Athénais Grimaldi (22 Apr 1784 – 8 May 1879) married René de La Tour du Pin, Marquis of La Tour du Pin and had issue.
  2. Athénais Euphrasie Louise Philippine Grimaldi (2 June 1786 – 11 September 1860) married Auguste Michel Felicité Le Tellier de Souvre, Marquis of Louvois and had no issue.
  3. Delphine Aimée Charlotte Grimaldi (born 22 July 1788) never married.
